Teams announced for 2006 Players Championships

 The Calgary Herald Men’s Players Championship and the BDO Classic Women’s Players Championship are set to close out the 2005-2006 season of curling at the Calgary Corral, April 12 – 16 with a combined purse of $250,000.00.
“Calgary will be witness to the greatest combined fields ever assembled under one roof-curling to win their "players championship" which means so much to the teams”, said Paul Boutilier, president of the Grand Slam of Curling. “The Grand Slam is honoured to have such quality teams compete”.
On the men’s side, curling fans can look forward to heated competition between the likes of top-ranked Team Randy Ferbey (four-time Brier and three-time World Champion), Team Wayne Middaugh (2002, 2001, 1999, 1996 Players Champions), Team Jeff Stoughton (2003 Players Champion), Team Kevin Martin (2002 silver medalist Olympics, 2006 Alberta Provincial champion and 2005, 2000, 1994, 1998 Players Champions); Team Glenn Howard (2006 Ontario Provincial Champion); and Team John Morris (2004 Players’ Champions). Calgary Herald sponsors exemption 2006 Olympic Gold medalist Team Gushue.
Also getting invites to the championship major are Pat Ryan's Kelowna squad, Bruce Korte of Saskatoon, Mark Johnson of Edmonton, Pat Simmons of Moose Jaw, Pierre Charette of Que., and Mark Dacey of Halifax, along with Olympic Bronze medalist Pete Fenson of Minn., and Tom Brewster of Scotland. -- Click to Read More |
